News from the Studio

After a lovely Summer of outdoor painting and Plein Air workshops, it’s good to settle back into the studio and classroom for the Autumn Art Season.

LATEST WORKS

My largest painting yet – West Coast (diptych) 90 x 240 cm – is finished and on exhibit at the Trinity Gallery Dublin.

This is from the Kilkee coastal trail in county Clare on a stormy evening, an immense horizon, shafts of sunlight breaking through the scudding clouds. The expansiveness of the scene and vastness of the ocean called for a much larger scale than I had considered before.

I loved painting it – the huge canvas presented many challenges, but also a great expressive freedom.

Back in the studio, many paintings started during Summer trips to Donegal, West Cork and Dunmore East are lined up waiting for finishing touches.  Lots of new and exciting material to develop.

Hi Brenda, I am just back from a Travel Department Trip ‘Undiscovered Italy, La Marche, based in Pesaro, Napoleon Hotel, v nice
Rooms, food, staff. Good bikes no charge for 2 hours, super flat cycling on well maintained cycle lanes. Harbour, fishing boats a tub shape – not very painterly. Most of the day coach trips involved hilly walking approaches to medieval castles and fortresses, which were rather Harry
Potterish from a distance. Also trip to Republic of San Merino. I only went on two trips + organic vineyard – I
found the latter interesting. I hope to go to Lake Garda next year, will
not do Venice as I have been there nor Verona but hopefully paint and take boat trips. The countryside from the coach in Italy was painterly, green as they had a wet year. Lovely weather on this trip, rain only on first afternoon.
I was in the Greek Islands of Naxos, Amorgos and Astypalea, hot but with a sea breeze everywhere, they are traditional islands not too touristy. This was with artemisarttours, mostly people from Oz and NZ, I only go every second year as expensive and involves two flights to first island, then everything is arranged.
I like your big new painting hope a big corporation or similar purchases it.

    1. Thank you so much Sally. Your recommendations are really helpful. We haven’t chosen a destination yet, but considering Lake Como. Great to have your input!
