Sketching Holiday on the Côte d’Azur 2016

Inviting artists of all levels to join me in Le Cannet on the Côte d’Azur for a Spring Painting and Sketching Workshop. This will be a four night, five day trip from 25 to 29 April 2016

Le Cannet is a quaint, historic village on the outskirts of Cannes, close to all amenities yet a world apart from the crowds and traffic of the Riviera. You can stroll the town, sip a coffee or glass of wine on the Place Bellevue, or take a 10 minute bus ride into Cannes for shopping and sightseeing. A frequent rail service from Cannes will take you to Nice, Monaco and the Italian border.

April is a perfect time of year to visit the Côte d’Azur. Sunny days, pleasant evenings, and no crowds. We will paint outdoors, around the village or on the hotel terrace. Travelling light, using watercolours, pens or crayons, we will create our own “Carnet de Voyage” – a travel sketchbook filled with impressions, ideas and notes for future studio work.

For your added enjoyment we have planned a guided visit to the Musée Bonnard, and a side trip to the unspoilt monastic island of St Honorat in the bay of Cannes.

Flights and accommodation are to be booked and paid individually, details below. The painting tuition cost for the trip is €200, which includes four full days of tuition, demonstrations, and individual assistance.

Daily Schedule

Monday 25 April: depart Dublin at 17.20, Ryanair FR 1958. Transfer to hotel in Le Cannet.

Tuesday 26 April: Walking and sketching around the historic village of Le Cannet. Guided tour of the Bonnard Museum, lunch at Le Tivoli restaurant, free time to stroll, sketch and relax, evening meal at Lou Meidjou where our friend Claude will prepare a delicious home cooked meal.

Wednesday 27 April: a day painting with the local art association “Le Hangar” in the countryside near Châteauneuf, picnic style lunch of cheese, salad and baguette with chilled rosé wine under the trees.

Thursday 28 April: We will take the local bus into Cannes, a 15 minute ride, to the Forville Market, and spend an hour here sketching, taking photos, or just enjoying the scene from one of the cafés. Lots of local colour – flowers, vegetables, herbs, olives, spices, a feast for the eyes. We’ll pick up some picnic supplies and head for the boat to St Honorat island in the Bay of Cannes, a 20 minute journey with fabulous views of the coast from the Esterel peninsula to Nice and beyond to Italy. St Honorat is an unspoilt natural haven of peace and beauty, with walking trails and a monastery where the monks still produce organic wine and honey

Friday 29 April: Relaxing day sketching in Le Cannet, or you may choose to explore further afield – by train to Antibes or Nice, or just enjoy a leisurely day in the village or by the hotel pool. The airport transfer will leave Le Cannet at 19.00 for the 21.35 Ryanair FR 1959 departure to Dublin
